Last thursday evening the Meyer Gallery in Sydney hosted the official book launch for the Australian Photography and Gallery Compendium. An annual publication, the compendium harbors the work of diverse artists who exhibited Australia wide in that year.
This edition includes the work of Stephen Dupont amidst the work of other talented Australian exhibitors; more information and enquires to obtain this year's copy can be made via the official website.
Six days 'til Nepal! The reportage- documentary workshop held by Stephen Dupont and Jack Picone in the city of Kathmandu, begins on July 11th until July 16th.

It is day 5 of the workshop and it has been inspiring to see the progress and quality of photography from each of the 10 students here in Kathmandu. We have two local Nepalese photographers and six participants from our past workshops. Each student has chosen challenging and compelling stories to tell, from maternity and birth, education, death to transexuals and child prostitutes.

My partner Elizabeth won the Panavision Grand Jury Prize at this year's Palm Springs International Shortfest in California for her film UMOJA: No Men Allowed, about women in Northern Kenya who created their own community.

In 2007 Stephen Dupont was named recipient of the W. Eugene Smith Memorial Fund Grant for his ongoing work in Afghanistan.
This prestigious award in the past has been endowed upon photographers such as Eugene Richards, Paolo Pellegrin, Letizia Battaglia, Sebastiao Salgado and Ernesto Bazan amongst others.
The grant's mission as quoted from the newly established website "is to support and encourage photographers producing humanistic photo stories in the tradition of the legendary American photo essayist who sought to expose the truth about issues affecting and afflicting mankind…"
The new website for the fund has been recently launched as of June 1, 2011 and includes a selection of the works of its past 33 recipients including that of Stephen Dupont.

If you happen to be passing by Northern NSW in the coming months, make sure you drop in and see this exhibition. It's always a fantastic show and the Tweed River Art Gallery is one of Australia's finest regional galleries. One of my "Weapons Platoon" portraits appears in the show.

A reminder to all that my Afghanistan retrospective exhibition is touring around Australia. The blog will be updated as and where the show takes place. Stephen Dupont's photograph of a US Marine portrait in Afghanistan has taken out this year's Head On Portrait Prize. Other winners include friend James Brickwood, Shauna Greyerbiehl, Katrin Koenning.
